Into Blue series| Josephson Art Studio
Into Blue Series oil paintings.
This series began as an exploration of the experience of becoming totally immersed in water. I considered how one relates and engages in the otherworldly experience, braving the deep and the dark. With wavy light and abstracted forms, a pool of water invites us to explore its secrets and mystery. We sense its danger and yet it entices us with its beauty and softness. Diving into water is an experience so different from our time on land that simply standing in water is enough to engage our senses and arouse our curiosity. These painting consider the buoyant joy of immersion in water and the delight of its undulating colors and light.
This series was painted in oil, my preference for its immediacy, texture and rich colors. In addition to brushwork I used palette knives, squeegees and printmaking brayers. I use them to deconstruct areas in the painting and where i want to meld a figure into its environment...to blur the line between the two. I want to create surprising, textured shapes and a sense of movement. I prefer painting on wood panels for their smooth surface - perfect for applying paint with palette knives and rollers.
